Historic Lyon, a World Heritage Site

Designated by Unesco as a World Heritage Site, the city of Lyon is rich not only in art, culture but also in tradition and gastronomy. A stroll through the city will take you to museums and historic sites going back two thousand years that have forged an outstanding architectural heritage including: Fourvière hill, with its basilica and Roman amphitheatres, the Cathédrale Saint-Jean (St John’s Cathedral - a large medieval monument) located in the Old Town, the Presqu’Ile (built in the classical period), the slopes of the Croix-Rousse and its Canuts [silk workers]...

A city with something for all the family


A symbol of the city’s cultural heritage, the Guignol puppet has become an emblem of Lyon. You can take your children to the Croix-Rousse or Saint-Jean theatres or to the Parc de la Tête dorm, with its excellent zoo and tropical greenhouses.

Don’t forget to visit one of the many museums such as the Musée des Beaux-Arts [Art Gallery] or the Institut Lumière, and coming soon, the new Musée des Confluents [Museum of the Confluent Rivers].

The Fête des Lumières [Festival of Lights] is Lyon’s leading event, a popular attraction drawing huge numbers of spectators. Famous throughout Europe as a unique event, over the past 5 years it has attracted over 3 million visitors each year.

Beaujolais and its Golden Stone

Known the world over for its young wine, Beaujolais is also a magnificent region to explore. With its little villages constructed in gold-coloured stone, fortified castles, paths alone the Saône Valley, vineyards and inns, a wealth of treasures awaits you here.
